A short plant with large, wavy leaves, Burdock has a head of purple flowers. It is enclosed in long scales intertwined with cottony, white substance. The whole plant though is pale, dull green in color. Its stem is about 3-4 feet rising from a root.

An infusion of the leaves can make a good herbal tea. It contains chemicals that fight bacteria and prevents inflammation. The roots are an effective drug and the leaves can be used in the same manner. They can be used as drops and if used for kidney problems, should be take several times in a day before meals.


Burdock’s roots have a sweet taste, the leaves however, are bitter. The seeds can be dried and made into a concoction. Burdock is helpful for dermal complications.

Side Effects

One has to be mindful of herbal treatments to react negatively when taken together with prescription drugs. Burdock might increase the risk of bleeding before and during surgery. It is also possible for Burdock to cause rashes.
