Inorganic phosphate in Diet Elevates the Heart Risk

Phosphate is abundantly found in all the diet we consume, but the new study shows inorganic phosphate leads to block the cells and may turn the CKD patients face the blood clots as a major cardiovascular disease.

According to the study report of the University of Leicester, Higher phosphate levels can cause blood clots as the phosphate elevates the stress signal inside the cells that line the blood vessels, which can release micro-particles.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) lose the ability to excrete excess phosphate in their urine, so that the material accumulates in their blood and cells, which is called hyperphosphatemia, thought to be a factor in increased risk of cardiovascular disease in them.

Researcher Alan Bevington said in the study which appeared in Journal of the American Society of Nephrology that this is important because blocking of blood vessels by blood clots, a process known as thrombosis, is a common cause of injury and death, occurring in a wide range of human illnesses including CKD.

The phenomenon is applicable to even the healthy individuals as the modern Western diets are rich in phosphate, and metabolic disturbances that can raise phosphate levels inside cells. But the risk will be higher for patients with CKD.

We should try to avoid the inorganic phosphate content in our diet to make the cells and veins flow free. The phosphate nutrient is important for preventing formation of calcium stones. However balanced diet by avoiding junk food can keep the hearts safe.
