The Healing Effects of Fruit and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are natural remedies. They are available sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber, which are essential for the proper functioning of our body. Studies have shown that daily intake of fruits and vegetables will improve general health, vitality, and help you become more resistant to disease or lower risk of many chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Experts advise that vegetables and fruits are the best when consumed in their raw state in the form of salads or freshly squeezed juices. If you need to cook them, gently boiled in the least amount of water so to retain all the nutrients.

Each color means something

Orange vegetables (carrots, squash, sweet potatoes …) are source of vitamin C and beta-carotene which is a powerful antioxidant that keeps the immune system strong and healthy, and is recommended for heart patients.

Green vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, cucumbers …) help the body to fight infections because these vegetables are rich in vitamin C, E, beta carotene, folates and potassium. We should consume at least two servings a day.

Colorful vegetables (mushrooms, tomatoes, radishes, eggplant…) are rich in vitamin C and K. Mushrooms strengthen the immune system by encouraging the creation of white blood cells necessary for the healthy immune system.

When buying vegetables and fruits avoid buying precut vegetables and fruits. Once cut, store vegetables and fruits in a cool, dry place in tightly closed container without exposure to sunlight as this will preserve freshness and preserve nutrients.

Medicinal properties of vegetables

Carrots – contain the necessary ingredients for growth, development, and strengthen the body, preserves and improves vision, prevents anemia, heartburn, improves digestion, eases urination. The healing properties include : developing strong immunity, helps with cough and lung diseases, urinary tract, lowers high blood pressure, good for digestion, cure diabetes, liver disease, rheumatism, helps expel fluid from the body.

Cucumber – is rich in vitamins and minerals, especially potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, iodine, manganese and iron. Cucumbers are used in treating diseases of the stomach and intestines, skin inflammation, rashes, insect bites, blood purification, to improve renal function and treatment of urinary tract, ulcers and hemorrhoids. Also it is used in cosmetics to refresh skin.

Cabbage – is used for treating stomach ulcers (cabbage juice), and ulcers of the duodenum. Prevents scurvy, can cure chronic constipation, strengthens the defense mechanism of the body, cures rheumatism, anemia, lung disease, arthritis, varicose veins, and has antiseptic properties.

Peppers – Due to its outstanding properties peppers are equally known as a food and as medicine. The healing properties: used  to heal atherosclerosis, inflammation of the throat and skin, hair loss, fever, improves digestion, expands capillaries, improves the appetite and relieves hangovers.

Parsley – The exceptional richness in minerals and vitamins makes it one of the plants with most healing properties. Parsley is used to improve circulation, resolves problems of the urinary tract (tea), to soothe nerves, to eliminate bloating, pain reliever, to purify the blood and helps the formation of red blood cells. Beetroot – is considered to be one of the most useful and the most healing foods. It is rich in carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and contains almost all minerals.
