When I think of spring, of course I think of flowers. As a spring baby, the smell of flowers blossoming in the rains was a part of my annual celebration. The field behind our house was filled with daffodils in white and yellow and I picked a fresh bouquet for my mother every day when she got home from work.
When we moved from that house, spring became a celebration of my mother’s hard work the year before as her transplanted bulbs regained their outward life and popped into the spring breeze. The air filled with sweet calming scents from the floral rainbows that surrounded us.
This recipe was inspired by these sweet spring memories and made with beautiful neroli essential oil(orange flower blossom). This precious essential oil can also be used to make incredible perfumes and body sprays that are perfect for the season – light, sweet, and floral. Instead of using vanilla absolute oil, I infused organic jojoba oil with vanilla beans, rendering a nice vanilla aroma that’s delicate and perfect for rounding out floral notes. This method is also an economical way to incorporate vanilla scents into your recipes, and so easy to make. You can also add a few drops of the neroli essential oil to this vanilla infused jojoba oil base and use as a luxurious body oil in a glass roll on bottle!
Vanilla Neroli Lip Balm
1 TBSP organic Shea Butter
3 TBSP organic Vanilla Bean Infused Jojoba Oil (Making Herbal Infused Oils)
1 TBSP plus 1 teaspoon Beeswax
20 drops organic Neroli essential oil
3 drops Vitamin E Oil (optional, but recommended)
Coarsely chop the beeswax or use beeswax pastilles. Place beeswax, butter, and oils in a small pot or glass Pyrex measuring cup and gently heat in the top of a double boiler until the beeswax and butters have melted. Remove from the stovetop and add essential oils and Vitamin E Oil. Immediately pour the mixture into lip balm containers. Allow to cool completely before placing caps onto the lip balm containers. Your lip balm is finished! Makes approximately 10 lip balm tubes.
